The following information is from our System Control regarding our operations in the Northeast over the next 48 hours (as of 1pm Houston time today). It’s probably more details than you want to know, but suffice to say that our EWR hub will completely shut down operations on Wednesday (tomorrow).
The following is a recap of the irregular operations meeting due to the impending weather headed to the east coast today.
- Weather Briefing: Snow starting this afternoon in the EWR area with accumulation from 8-13 inches with sustained
winds at 30 miles an hour. Blizzard conditions are expected throughout Wednesday.
The following are station field reports and operations plans from late afternoon today to late Thursday morning:
- EWR: EWR will suspend operations all day Wednesday. The following flights will be allowed to arrive into EWR: CO83, CO91, and CO49.
Tuesday evening we will try to reduce RON count from 64 to 36. Start up of EWR operations on Thursday will start at 50% and increase gradually as the day goes on.
- CLE: CLE will experience up to 12 inches of snow. CLE will focus on RON and Express/Connection carrier flight reduction from 30-40%
- DCA: The area is expecting 12-18 inches of snow. The airport’s snow removal efforts are extended to airport operational limits. The airports instrument landing system are completely iced over. The will be a complete cancelation of operations for Wednesday. Projected start-up time for operations will be anticipated at 1100 Thursday morning.
- BWI: The BWI area is expecting 18-20 inches of snow. Snow removal is minimal at best. There will be no RON aircraft tonight and there will be a complete cancelation for Wednesday. Projected start-up time for operations will be anticipated at 1100 Thursday morning.
- PHL: PHL will be expecting 12-18 inches with instrument flight rules in effect at 2200 Tuesday night. There will be a suspension of operations for all Continental regional carriers on Wednesday and all CO mainline flights until late Wednesday evening at this time.
PHL is currently experiencing hazardous ramp and taxiway conditions.
- LGA: Based weather forecast LGA will have accumulated one inch by 0600 Wednesday. RON aircraft will arrive into and leave before 0800 Wednesday. All flights after 0800 will canceled.
- PIT: PIT will be expected 10-12 inches of snow Wednesday afternoon. Airport will be working on a one runway operation. Cancelation of flight will start tonight and last throughout Wednesday. PIT should operational by Thursday morning.
- ORD: ORD has accumulated 3 inches on the ground with an additional 4-7 by midnight tonight. ORD will be working on a 2 runway operation with one express cancelation today.
- DTW: DTW is expecting 12 inches total snowfall. Snow removal is good. Evening and cancelation for express carriers today and tonight.
- CMH: CMH is expecting an additional 3-5 inches snow by Wednesday morning. Runway conditions are okay, but there can be possible delays due to blowing snow and high winds.
- PVD: 6-12 inches are possible at PVD. Light bookings all day Wednesday. Morning operations are okay. Afternoon express cancelations.
- IND: IND is expecting 3-5 inches by Wednesday morning. Operation should fully functional with the flight load
- IAD: IAD is expecting 12-20 inches. Instrument landing systems are down due to ice buildup. All flights are canceled until Thursday morning.
- RIC: RIC can experience 2-4 inches of possible snow with sleet. Operationally functional Wednesday
- DAY: DAY is expected to have 8 inches by Wednesday morning. Delays are possible due to Ramp and tarmac condition delays.
- CVG: CVG is expected to have an additional 4-7 inches. Runway and taxi conditions are good. Possible delays due to blowing snow and high winds.
